Snake-Killer.io is a free snake battle game at snakekiller.io. This page says what we keep about you, why, for how long, and how to have it deleted. Questions: [email protected].
In short
- You can play as a guest, with no email and without telling us who you are.
- We keep what the game needs: your progress, coins and items, and your email if you sign in.
- We do not sell or share your personal information. There are no ads in the game now.
- No outside analytics and no advertising cookies.
- Signed in or as a guest, you can delete your data yourself at any time: «Your account» → «Delete my data».
- The game is for players aged 13 and over.
- In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland you play as a guest: signing up, signing in and paying money are closed there for now; buying with coins works.
Who runs the game
The game and this site are run by Nikita Dubrovskii, a private individual, under the name Snake-Killer.io («we», «us»). Contact: [email protected]. Write to [email protected] about anything on this page.
What we keep and why
- On your device. Your progress, the coins you win in play, skins, settings, your own play statistics, your guest key (or your account's key, once you sign in), your answer to the age question and your language choice are kept in your browser's storage. So are your friends list, the players you have hidden, your rivals, your tag for the links you share, and who invited you, if you came by a friend's link. The game also keeps a short-lived key to bring you back into your own snake after a reload, which it sends only to the game server that gave it, and the server city you used last, for one day. The game uses no cookies of its own. This storage is needed for the game to work. Clearing the browser's data for the site removes it.
- Your coins and items on our server. Your coins, your items, your rank, your tattoo counts and your friends are kept on our server with your guest key or your account, so nobody can fake them and they are not lost with the browser. We keep each change to your coins: how many, what for (a match, a purchase, a video, a refund) and when, so a purchase or a match counts exactly once.
- A guest key. When you play on our server without an account, your browser gets a random guest number and key. Our server keeps the number and only a scrambled copy (a hash) of the key, so the key itself cannot be read back from our records.
- Your name in the game. The name you pick, your skin and your moves are sent to our server so others can play with you. Your name, skin, effects, badges, rank and the words on your tattoo are shown to other players on the arena and in the rankings. «Hide my name» on the pause screen hides your name, badges, rank and the words on your tattoo from others. Do not use your real name or anything personal in it.
- Friends. Your friend code and your name as friends see it (for guests too), your friends, friend requests, and the players you blocked (with their name at that moment). There is no chat.
- If you sign in with Google. Google tells us your account's ID and your email address. We use them to keep your purchases and progress safe across devices. We never see your Google password. Google's own sign-in script loads on the page when a sign-in window opens, and Google's privacy policy applies to it.
- If you sign in with your email. You type your email address and we send it a one-time code from our own mailbox; the code works for 10 minutes. We keep your address to find your account when you sign in again, on any device, and use it for nothing else: no newsletters, no ads. We keep the code only as a scrambled copy (a hash), and delete it once it is used, or within hours after it expires. A copy of each code email also stays in our mailbox's sent mail for 30 days. Your name in the game is kept with your account, so another device finds it.
- Your age. Before the launch sign-up the game asks your year of birth, and before your first purchase or reward video your month and year (where signing in is closed, a guest buying with coins or watching a video is not asked). We do not keep them: our server keeps only whether you are 13 or older, whether you are 18 or older, and when you answered; your browser remembers your answer too. An answer of under 13 is kept, so that buying stays shut for that player. Signing in («Your account» or the shop) does not ask your age yet. The shop is for 13 and over, and players under 18 can spend at most $50 in 30 days (see the Terms).
- If you buy something, once the shop opens. Payments are handled by Xsolla, which sells the items to you. To open the payment window, we send Xsolla your player number and your email address (buying needs an account). Xsolla processes your payment details; we never see your card number. We get back the order number, the item, the price, Xsolla's payment number and whether the payment went through or was refunded, so we can give you the item, and take it back after a refund or a chargeback. If you delete your account, the order stays without your player number or email; Xsolla's payment number stays with it, and Xsolla keeps its own record of the payment.
- Your IP address and country. Your device's internet address reaches our servers when you connect. We use it to run the connection and to protect the game, for example to limit how many sign-in codes and guest keys one address can ask for. It is held in memory, and may appear in our server logs. Our server also looks up which country the address belongs to, in a list of address ranges kept on our own server (DB-IP's «IP to Country Lite», IP Geolocation by DB-IP, CC BY 4.0); nothing is sent to DB-IP for it. Where the list has no answer, it uses a country named in the request's headers, if there is one (Cloudflare's, where a connection passes through Cloudflare). We use the country only to keep signing up, signing in and buying closed in the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland (see «If you play from Europe»), and do not keep it.
- A network mark for a guest. When the game makes you a guest, our server keeps a short mark made from your network (the first three parts of an IPv4 address, or the first half of an IPv6 one, scrambled with a secret key: six letters, never the address itself) and your kind of device and browser (such as «iPhone · Safari»). We use them to count how many different people play and come back, and to tell one person's several guests (another browser, a private window) from strangers. They are not kept in the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and the network mark goes when you sign in.
- How the game runs for you. While you play, the game tells our server how your visit went: how fast it loaded and how soon your first match began, your connection's delay and frames per second (each minute), when the connection dropped, errors, how long each life lasted, how big you grew, your kills and how each life ended, how each match ended for you (your place, a win), when you shared a link or watched the broadcast, when you switch away from the tab and back, and where you were when you left (and from which screen). It also tells us which site or link brought you here (the site's name only, not the page, and the link's tags), whether you play on a phone or a computer, your browser's language, your screen's size and the game's version. This record has no name, no IP address and no account in it; where a country is named for your connection (by Cloudflare), it keeps that country's two letters (such as US). We use it to find lags and breaks, and keep it for 14 days. Apart from it, our server can count visits and first games only as daily totals, with no IP address kept; this count is off today. If the game hits an error, it sends the error message, where it happened, the error's stack, the game's version and your browser and device description (the "user agent", up to 160 characters), so we can fix it; these go into our server logs.
- A device mark. So that we can tell a player who comes back from a new one, the game may keep a random mark in your browser and send it with that record. It is not linked to your name, your account or other sites, and it is never used for ads. The game does not keep it for players in the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, or when it cannot tell where you are: to decide, our server looks at the country Cloudflare reports for your connection. Where a connection does not pass through Cloudflare, as the game's own connections do not today, no country is reported and no mark is kept. Clearing the browser's data for the site removes it.
- If you sign up before the launch. Before the game opens, you can sign in with your email or Google to be one of the first players: the first 700 get a numbered seat and the Pioneer pack. First you pick your year of birth; we keep only whether you are 13 or older, never the year, and under 13 you cannot sign up. Besides your account we keep when you signed up, your seat's number and, if the link you came by had a tag (
?ref=orutm_), that tag, to hand out the Pioneer pack in order and to see which links bring players. We send no emails for this, only the sign-in code you ask for. - What you tell us after a game. If you answer the short question after a game (a thumbs up or down, a few words), we keep your answer with that record. Your words are cut to 300 characters, and anything that looks like an email address, a link, a phone number or a username is removed. Please do not write anything personal.
- Your emails to us. If you write to us, we keep your message and our answer for 2 years.
- Problem reports. If you send a report from the game, we get what happened, your words (without e-mails, links and phone numbers), the screenshot if you added one, the game's version, your device and browser, the connection, frame rates and the page's recent errors, your nickname in the game and, if you are signed in, your player number. Reports reach our support team in Telegram. If you choose to write to us in Telegram, we also get your Telegram name and username and what you send us there; if you write by e-mail, your address and your letter.
You can play without giving us anything that names you. Free skins need no sign-in; buying with coins or money needs an account (where signing in is closed, below, a guest buys with coins).
What we get from Google when you sign in (your account ID and email) is used only for your account and, if you buy something, for Xsolla, as described above. It is never used for ads and never sold.
We do not sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising based on what you do on other sites. We do not use it to build advertising profiles. We use no outside analytics and no advertising cookies. We do not ask for your precise location, contacts, photos or your full date of birth.
Why we are allowed to use it
- To run the game you asked for (contract): your name in the game, your moves, your guest key, your coins and items, your friends, your Google account ID and email or the email you sign in with, and your orders.
- Our legitimate interests in keeping the game working and fair: your IP address, to connect you and to stop floods and abuse; the record of how the game ran, daily totals and error reports, to find lags and fix bugs; a guest's network mark and device kind, to count players and returns and tell one person's guests apart. We use the least we need for this. You can object, see "Your rights".
- Our legitimate interests in signing you up properly: whether you are 13 or older (no accounts under 13) and 18 or older (the spending limit), the tag of the link you came by (which links bring players), and the country of your address (signing up stays closed where we have not opened it). You can object, see "Your rights".
- Legal obligation: records of payments, as tax and accounting law requires.
Who helps us run the game
- Vultr (United States) and Akamai (Singapore) host our game servers and the accounts on them.
- Cloudflare runs the site's addresses, delivers the site's pages and protects them from attacks, and keeps the backup copy of our database (any moment of the last 7 days). It sees your IP address when you open the site and may set a cookie needed for that protection; the game's own connections go straight to our servers.
- Google handles sign-in, if you sign in with Google.
- Xsolla handles payments and refunds, once the shop opens and if you buy something. Its own privacy policy applies to your payment: xsolla.com/privacypolicy.
- Google Workspace hosts our email, so it holds the letters you send us, and sends the sign-in codes.
- Telegram carries our support chat: problem reports from the game, the letters you send us and what you write to our support bot reach our team there. Cloudflare passes them on and keeps only which topic of our support chat is whose.
These companies, and we, may handle data in countries other than yours, including the United States, Singapore and Vietnam.
Ads, when we turn them on
There are no ads in the game now. When we add them, they will come from Google (Google AdSense and its video ads) and show only when you choose to watch a video for a reward, such as coins. There are no ads when you open the game, before a match or between matches. For each video you ask for, we keep a one-time number for a day, so its reward is given once. Players in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland will first be asked for consent; without it, ads are not personalised. We will update this page before ads start.
Once ads are on: third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your earlier visits to this site or to other sites. Google's use of advertising cookies lets it and its partners serve ads to you based on those visits. You can turn off personalised ads in Google's Ads Settings, and turn off other vendors' cookies for personalised ads at aboutads.info. How Google uses this information: policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
How long we keep it
- Your progress, coins, items, rank, friends and account: while you play, and until you delete them or ask us to.
- Guest records on our server: kept until you press «Delete my data»; there is no automatic deletion yet.
- Server logs with IP addresses and error reports: no longer than 30 days (only counts of each kind of error, with its message and place, and no IP or device, are kept longer).
- The record of how the game ran for you, with the device mark and your answer after a game: 14 days.
- A guest's network mark: 13 months after the guest's last visit, or until you sign in.
- The tag of the link you came by: 90 days. An account made at sign-up before the launch and never played: deleted 12 months after the launch.
- Backup copies: 7 days after each change.
- Sign-in codes: they work 10 minutes and are erased within hours; copies of code emails in our sent mail: 30 days. Numbers for reward videos: 1 day.
- Records of payments: as long as tax and accounting law requires, up to 10 years; Xsolla, which sells to you, keeps its own.
- Your emails to us: 2 years.
- Problem reports: 90 days; their screenshots: 30 days.
Your rights
- In the game, signed in or as a guest. Open «Your account», press «Delete my data», and press it again to confirm. It works at once: every device's key, your items, coins, rank, tattoo counts, Pioneer seat and friends are gone, and, if you signed in, your account, email and Google link too; then the game starts afresh. Payment records stay without your player number or email (taxes and chargebacks need them). Backup copies roll off within 7 days, server logs within 30; copies of sign-in code emails in our sent mail are not removed by it.
- Clearing the browser's data. It removes your key, so your guest record on our server can no longer be opened, but it does not delete that record: it stays as «How long we keep it» says. To delete it, use «Delete my data» first.
You can ask us to show, correct, export or delete the data we keep about you, to limit how we use it, or object to how we use it. Write to [email protected] and give the email you signed in with, so we can find your data. If you play as a guest, use «Delete my data» in the game: we cannot find a guest by email. We answer within 30 days. Asking costs nothing and changes nothing in your game.
If you live in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority: in the EU, see edpb.europa.eu; in the UK, the ICO: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint.
Your US state privacy rights (including California)
Laws in California (the CCPA, as changed by the CPRA) and in several other states give their residents rights over their personal information. Whether or not those laws apply to a game our size, we give these rights to every player.
- Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information. We do not sell your personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and we have not done so in the last 12 months. So there is nothing to opt out of. If this ever changes, we will first put an opt-out link here and follow your browser's Global Privacy Control signal.
- What we collect, in the law's categories, in the last 12 months: identifiers (email, Google account ID, guest and account numbers, your name in the game, the device mark, a guest's network mark, IP address); age group (13 or older, 18 or older); commercial information (purchases and coin history); internet activity (the record of how the game ran, your play and your answers after a game); approximate location (a request's country; kept only as two letters with the record of how the game ran). We draw no inferences about you. Of sensitive personal information we keep only what lets you into your account (a hash of your key), and use it for nothing else.
- Where it comes from and who gets it. From you, your device and your connection, Google (if you sign in with Google) and Xsolla (if you buy). We give it only to the companies in «Who helps us run the game», for running the game; other players see only what «Your name in the game» says.
- Your rights. To know what we collect and get a copy; to have it deleted; to have it corrected; and not to be treated differently for asking. Use «Delete my data» in the game, signed in or as a guest, or write to [email protected]. Someone you authorise in writing may ask for you. If we say no, you can ask us to look again (an appeal) at the same address; we answer within 45 days.
- How long we keep each kind: see «How long we keep it».
Children
The game is meant for players aged 13 and over. Players under 13 should not sign in or buy anything. Before the launch sign-up and before buying, the game asks your age and keeps only the answers «Your age» lists; under 13, signing up and buying stay shut, and that answer is kept so they stay shut. Signing in does not ask your age yet. Anyone can play as a guest without saying their age; for guests we keep only what runs the game (the guest record and the record of how the game ran). When a guest answers under 13, we delete their guest record at once and the game goes on with a new, empty guest; only that answer stays on the device, so signing up and buying stay shut. If you are a parent and think your child under 13 has signed in, write to [email protected] with the email your child signed in with. We answer within 30 days and delete that data. If your child played as a guest, press «Delete my data» in «Your account» on the device they played on, or write to us. If we learn in another way that we keep data from a child under 13, we delete it. The device mark and the record of how the game ran are used only to keep the game working and make it better, never for ads or to contact anyone.
If you play from Europe
We open the game in the United States first. In the EU, the EEA, the UK and Switzerland (and Jersey, Guernsey, the Isle of Man and Gibraltar) you get the same game as a guest: play, ranks and friends work as anywhere else, but signing up, signing in, the launch sign-up and paying money are closed there for now; a guest buys with coins there, and what it buys is kept with its guest record. We tell where you are by the country of your internet address, as «Your IP address and country» says; if the country cannot be told, they stay open. You can still delete your data in the game, as a guest or if you signed in before. The device mark is not kept there. We use your data on the grounds «Why we are allowed to use it» lists, and the rights in «Your rights» are yours, including the complaint to your data protection authority.
Tracking across sites
The game does not follow you across other sites, so it works the same whether or not your browser sends a "Do Not Track" signal. Apart from Cloudflare's security cookie and Google's sign-in script in a sign-in window, no third party collects data about what you do here over time or across sites. Once ads are on, Google and its partners will too, as «Ads, when we turn them on» says.
Keeping it safe
The site and the game use encrypted connections. Your keys are kept only as hashes, and so are sign-in codes until they are erased. Our database has a backup copy, so a broken server does not lose your coins and items.
Changes
When this page changes, we update the date at the top.
